History

Founded in 1953 and established in Chicago, we set high goals and pursued our dreams in the glass and glazing industry. Now, with locations all across the country, we are realizing our goals on a national level.


 

2010

  • Winner of Glass Magazine's 2010 Crystal Achievement Awards in 3  Categories:
    -Most Innovative Curtain Wall Project: 2 Alliance Center in Atlanta

  • Launched Trainor Design Centers website
  • Launched Trainor Solar Systems website
  • Purchased Western Glass in Ogden, Utah.
  • Launched Trainor Modular Walls Division and created a Herman Miller Strategic Alliance Partnership.
  • Opened a Retail Glass Design Center in Chicago, Illinois and relocated the Illinois Division to the Chicago location.
  • Opened a satellite office in Waxahachie, Texas to offer estimating support for the Southwest Region.

2009

  • Launched the new Trainor Glass Company corporate web site.
  • Launched the Trainor Glass Online Store.
  • Acquired Cotter Glass in Champaign, Illinois.
  • Opened Retail Glass Design Center in South Bend, Indiana.
  • Opened Allan Park, Michigan location.
  • Acquired Wyoming Glass location in Casper, Wyoming.
  • Opened office in Irvine, California.
  • Introduced Stone Facades and Demountable Partitions.
  • Bradley Funck promoted to Vice President and Division Manager of the Maryland Division.
  • Opened a location in Las Vegas, Nevada.

2008

  • Created 5 regions within the company:
    -Northwest, with Dan Trainor named Regional Manager,
    -Southeast, with Brian Clark named Regional Manager and Jim Bald named Dallas Division Manager,
    -Northwest with Bill Trainor named Regional Manager and Paul Trainor named Colorado Division Manager,
    -Midwest, with Paul Rowan named Regional Manager and Sean McEneaneny named Illinois Division Manager,
    -Southwest, with Paul Main named Division Manager and Marty McKinley named Arizona Division Manager.
  • Trainor Glass Florida Division adds 40,000 square feet of production space, bringing total to 100,000 square feet of production. The expansion brings with it on-site testing chambers, a compound miter saw, CNC and high efficiency glazing machines.
  • Roll out of NEW and IMPROVED version of Project Management Online to better service our customers.
  • Roll out of Human Resources On-Line to better service our employees, facilitates goal setting and performance reviews.
  • Relocated our Richmond, Virginia facility to an automated, hi-tech 100,000 square foot facility.
  • Opened our AutoCAD center in Michigan City, Indiana to provide drawings and engineering for our offices across the country. Supervised by Patrick Bussa, National Drafting Manager.
  • Tom Trainor promoted to President from CFO.
  • Bob Trainor remains CEO.


2007

  • "World Class Training" for each and every one of our 500+ team members. 40 hours minimum training, and passing all associated quizzes, for every plant, field and office person. We continue to learn and grow so we can provide the best possible service to our customers.
  • Formed of a new operating division in Illinois, known as Illinois Engineered Wall Division, focused on unitized and preglazed wall projects, to better service the increasing trend towards unitization and preglazing of curtainwalls in Illinois and the surrounding states. Division Manager as of December 2007 is Blake O’Halloran. Taking over as Division Manager for the Illinois Division, focusing on tenant interiors and lobby renovations, is Paul Rowan.
  • Opened an office near Baltimore, Maryland with a 3,200 square foot plant, to better service our Maryland and Washington, D.C. markets. Division Manager is Dan Trainor.
  • Opened an office near Austin, Texas with an 11,300 square foot plant, to better service our projects in that area. Division Manager is Steven Russell.
  • Ed Trainor, Executive Vice President, moved to National Purchasing role from role of Division Manager of Illinois Engineered Wall Division.
  • On May 1, both Brian Clark (Division Manager Dallas, Texas) and Bill Trainor (Division Manager Denver, Colorado) were promoted from Vice President to Executive Vice President.
  • James Trainor became Chairman of the Board.
  • Total of 6 large, modern, automated, hi-tech unitized production facilities, with land for trucking logistics, including 4 other smaller production, distribution facilities, for a total of 550,000 square feet Nationally, to better service our customers.
  • Video conference capabilities are set up at all of our facilities to increase the effectiveness of our communications with each other as well as our customers.
  • All of our locations are equipped with 4-digit direct dial extensions so we can quickly and easily reach one another.
  • Created a National Reception desk at our Headquarters in Alsip, Illinois to efficiently route calls and better serve our customers.


2006

  • Purchased and relocated our Dallas, Texas operation to a larger facility.
  • Purchased and renovated our Atlanta, Georgia facility.
  • Relocated our Denver, Colorado facility to a larger facility.
  • Acquired East Coast Glass operations in Richmond, Virginia and merged into Trainor Glass, adding a 50,000 square foot automated unitized facility.
  • Acquired satellite office in Charlotte, North Carolina as part of Richmond, Virginia deal.
  • Opened a satellite office in Lake St. Louis, Missouri to provide reviews of major bids on a national level.


2005

  • Division of Trainor Glass opens in Phoenix, Arizona. Paul Main named Division Manager.
  • Brian Clark, Division Manager of our Dallas, Texas Division, became a Board Member in January.
  • Created our Company Intranet site, an excellent resource for all employees to access everything from general company information to detailed training manuals.


2004

  • Ed Trainor assumes position of Division Manager and Paul Rowan assumes position of Assistant Division Manager for our Illinois Division.


2003

  • Trainor Glass Company Celebrates 50 Years of Service! Thank you to all of our valued customers!
  • New Jersey facility relocated to South Kearny, NJ.
  • Trainor Glass ownership transitioned to Bob Trainor Jr., Tom Trainor, Ed Trainor and Bill Trainor.


2002

  • On May 1, Ed Trainor was promoted from Vice President to Executive Vice President.


2001

  • A division of Trainor Glass opens in Dallas, Texas. Brian Clark is named Division Manager.
  • Grand opening of our relocated Trainor Glass facility in Riviera Beach, Florida, to better service the entire state of Florida, focusing on our TCW 250 Impact Systems. Jerry Kern is named Division Manager as of 2002.


2000

  • Grand opening of our relocated Trainor Glass corporate office in Alsip, Illinois.
  • A division of Trainor Glass opens in Denver, Colorado. Bill Trainor named Division Manager.


1999

  • A division of Trainor Glass opens in New Jersey / New York.

1998

  • On April 22, Tom Trainor named Chief Financial Officer.


1997

  • A division of Trainor Glass opens in Atlanta, Georgia. Dennis Welch is Division Manager since 2005. Paul Main, current Division Manager of Phoenix, Arizona Division, was Division Manager from 1997-2005.


1995

  • Robert J. Trainor, Jr. named CEO. Robert J. Trainor, Sr. became Chairman of the Board.

1993

  • Added 32,000 square feet to the Alsip, Illinois building.
  • James Trainor named President.


1983

  • Added 5,000 square feet to Alsip, Illinois building.
  • A division of Trainor Glass opens in Riviera Beach, Florida.


1972

  • Purchased Anderson Metal, an aluminum storefront and curtainwall fabricator and installer.


1968

  • First Trainor Glass brochure distributed.


1961

  • Hired father Harry J. Trainor, Sr., who worked at Cadillac Glass Company in Chicago from 1930 to 1960.


1960

  • As company continues to grow, bought an 8,000 square foot building at 11700 S. Cicero, Alsip, Illinois.


1957

  • November 15, James Trainor started working for Trainor Glass.


1956

  • Built 5,000 square foot building at 10401 S. Kedzie. Primarily commercial and industrial work, with some residential.


1953

  • February 14, Trainor Glass Company founded by Robert J. Trainor Sr. Started out in a rented store at 10452 S. Kedzie Ave., Chicago, IL. Business was primarily residential applications.
