History

Founded in 1953 and established in Chicago, we set high goals and pursued our dreams in the glass and glazing industry. Now, with locations all across the country, we are realizing our goals on a national level.


2011

• 55,000 sq. ft. of additional new production space for Modular Walls in Dallas, Texas.
• Winner of Glass Magazine’s 2010 Crystal Achievement Awards in several categories including:

    Most Innovative Web Site, Large Company- Trainor Glass Design Centers Web Site
• Launched Trainor Solar Systems web site & new business unit
• Opened Trainor Glass in Ogden, Utah.
• New 25,000 sq. ft. plant in Charlotte, North Carolina.
• New office/plant in Detroit, Michigan.
• Launched Trainor Modular Walls Division and created a Herman Miller Strategic Alliance Partnership.

2009

• Launched the new Trainor Glass Company corporate web site.
• Introduced Trainor Stone Facades.

2008


• Roll out of our new Glazing Management System (GMS) allowing 24/7 access to projects online.
• Roll out of Human Resources On-Line to better service our employees, facilitate goal setting and performance reviews. Marie Trainor - VP of Human Resources.
• Relocated our Richmond, Virginia facility to an automated, hi-tech 100,000 square foot facility.
• Opened our central business facility in Michigan City, Indiana to provide drawings and engineering for our offices across the country.


2007
• “World Class Training” for all our 500+ team members. 40 hours minimum required annually, for every plant, field and office person. Our commitment to continued education allows us to provide the best possible service to our customers.
• Opened Austin, Texas office. Steven Russell - Division Manager
• Brian Clark promoted to Senior Executive Vice President,  Bill Trainor promoted to Executive Vice President.
• Trainor Glass now encompasses 3 large, modern, automated, hi-tech unitized production facilities, with land for trucking logistics, including 6 other smaller production, distribution facilities, providing a total of over 330,000 square feet of production space nationally.
• State-of-the-art video conferencing is set up at all of our facilities to maximize communications with each other and our customers.
• Created a National Reception Center, operating out of Michigan City, Indiana.

2006
• Opened new plant in Dallas, Texas.
• Opened new plant in Denver, Colorado.
• Opened new plant in Richmond, Virginia
• Opened new office in Charlotte, North Carolina.

2005
• Brian Clark becomes a Board Member and partner.
• Created company Intranet site, an excellent resource for all employees to access everything from general company information to detailed training manuals.

2004
• Paul Rowan named Senior VP for Illinois.

2001
• Opened Dallas, Texas Division.
• Grand opening of our new plant in Riviera Beach, Florida.

2000
• Opened Denver Division.

1998
• Tom Trainor named Chief Financial Officer.

1996
• Company ownership in the hands of Bob Trainor, Tom Trainor, Bill Trainor and Ed Trainor.

1995
• Robert J. Trainor, Jr. - CEO.
• Robert J. Trainor, Sr. became Chairman of the Board.

1993
• 32,000 square feet added to the Alsip, Illinois facility.
• James Trainor - President.

1983
• 5,000 square feet added to the Alsip, Illinois facility.
• Opened new Division in Riviera Beach, Florida.

1972
• Purchased Anderson Metal, an aluminum storefront and curtain wall fabricator and installer.

1968
• First Trainor Glass Company brochure distributed.

1961
• Hired father Harry J. Trainor, Sr., who worked at Cadillac Glass Company in Chicago, from 1930 to 1960.

1960
• Continued growth fuels the purchase of an 8,000 square foot building at 11700 S. Cicero in Alsip, Illinois.

1957
• James Trainor began working for Trainor Glass.

1956
• Constructed a 5,000 square foot facility at 10401 S. Kedzie. Primarily commercial and industrial work, with some residential.

1953
• Trainor Glass Company is founded by Robert J. Trainor Sr., in a rented store at 10452 S. Kedzie Ave. in Chicago, Illinois on February 14. Primary business was residential applications.
